Well winter never came to Texas so, I have decided to head back out and get started on the garage and learn more about the craft of “hand tool” woodworking. In the last year or so since I started blogging, I have come realize more about myself and the direction I want my “wood work” to take. What does that mean? Well first I am FAR and away not fit to pick up a board of cherry much less do anything with it besides make saw dust and splinters and leave my sweat and most likely blood on it. “If it were easy then every one, would do it” comes to mind. And so, persevere I will.
A few weeks ago I stopped into a local antique shop not expecting to find anything and/or not be willing to pay what they were asking. However, I did and made some purchases first up was this nasty door stop of a joiner plane for $40. The toe is rotted in about 2 inches and cracks run through the length and there is a rounding across the sole it is sadly trash, but it had a blade and chip breaker that were in good condition a patina when cleaned off to assess the blade revealed no rusting!!!! except for a massive chip in it (this will be repaired) can’t buy one at that price unless you know some one and I am a hermit! And in my Library I have copies of John Whelan’s Making Traditional Handplanes and Charles Hayward’s How to Make WoodWork Tools to use as reference for building my plane after all whether you chop out or laminate your hand plane unless you own a forge, a blade is the one thing you need that most of us can’t fabricate.
I also purchased a matching pair of 1/4 Sandusky H&R’s for $35 each maybe a steal maybe not but I still don’t trust the way Ebay sets up the auction parameters eh wut ev’ah.I also purchased this beading?? plane no wedge but I have the Sandusky to model from.
Aside from the DMT 10″ fine plate I got for Christmas ( I won’t be going back to the sandpaper method! Total pain in the arse!!) I have what I need to start bleeding profusely. Sooo? I have been tossing the idea of creating a You Tube account for this b/vlog? What do I need to know about that?
Well that is all for today see you soon
